Lance Pereira was born and raised in Southern California, where as a kid he shot super 8mm westerns in the hills behind his house. After graduating from UCLA, he joined a music video production company, and as a young P.A. was tasked with assembling one of the first Avid editing systems in Los Angeles. Quickly learning the technology, Pereira wound up teaching the company’s tape editors how to use the new non-linear software and soon became an editor himself. Cutting videos for Stone Temple Pilots, Mary J. Blige, and ’N Sync (for which he received an MTV nomination) led to a 25+ year career cutting commercial campaigns for such brands as Apple, BMW, Budweiser, Samsung, and Sony PlayStation.

It was on a music video for The Crystal Method that Pereira first worked with director Gore Verbinski. The success of that relationship led to cutting trailers for Verbinski’s films and being tapped as an additional editor for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest. Pereira then cut the feature film Coherence for writer/director James Ward Byrkit, a frequent Verbinski collaborator. The Hollywood Reporter called Coherence “a thought-provoking and well-crafted experiment in zero-budget sci-fi.” Most recently Verbinski called on Pereira for the lead editing role on his paranoid thriller A Cure for Wellness.

Pereira currently resides in Laurel Canyon with his wife Vicky and their two daughters.
